Latest crop progress and condition report shows 50% of the Kansas wheat crop is poor/very poor condition, Nebraska 63 good/excellent. Corn planting in Nebraska 17% complete, 27% in Kansas. Nationally 17% complete as of Sunday.

Nebraska Crop Progress & Condition Report

For the week ending April 29, 2018, there were 4.7 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDAs National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 4 percent very short, 22 short, 73 adequate, and 1 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 3 percent very short, 28 short, 68 adequate, and 1 surplus.

Field Crops Report: Corn planted was 17 percent, behind 32 last year and 24 for the five-year average.

Soybeans planted was 6 percent, near 7 last year and 4 average.

Winter wheat condition rated 1 percent very poor, 6 poor, 30 fair, 50 good, and 13 excellent.

Oats planted was 63 percent, well behind 89 last year and 87 average. Emerged was 30 percent, well behind 54 last year and 57 average.

Field Crops Report: Winter wheat condition rated 16 percent very poor, 34 poor, 37 fair, 12 good, and 1 excellent. Winter wheat jointed was 52 percent, well behind 89 last year and 77 for the five-year average. Headed was 2 percent, well behind 41 last year and 24 average.

Corn planted was 27 percent, behind 36 last year and 35 average. Emerged was 6 percent, behind 11 last year and 14 average.

Soybeans planted was 2 percent, equal to both last year and average.
