Crops really progressed last week in latest report

The latest crop progress and condition report from USDA/NASS shows crops made leaps of progress the past week with corn silking now at 37% and soybeans blooming at 47%, both are well ahead of the five-year average. Winter wheat harvest is not 63% complete with Kansas at 92% finished.

Nebraska Crop Progress and Condition

For the week ending July 8, 2018, there were 5.2 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 2 percent very short, 12 short, 78 adequate, and 8 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 3 percent very short, 17 short, 74 adequate, and 6 surplus.


 
Field Crops Report: Corn condition rated 1 percent very poor, 2 poor, 11 fair, 65 good, and  21 excellent. Corn silking was 31 percent, ahead of 13 both last year and for the five-year average.  


 
Soybean condition rated 1 percent very poor, 3 poor, 13 fair, 67 good, and 16 excellent. Soybeans blooming was 50 percent, near 48 last year, and ahead of 34 average. Setting pods was 1 percent, near 2 average.  


 
Winter wheat condition rated 5 percent very poor, 7 poor, 19 fair, 55 good, and 14 excellent. Winter wheat harvested was 25 percent, well behind 47 last year, and near 27 average.


 
Sorghum condition rated 0 percent very poor, 2 poor, 17 fair, 66 good, and 15 excellent. Sorghum headed was 13 percent, ahead of 4 last year and 2 average.  


 
Oats condition rated 1 percent very poor, 4 poor, 35 fair, 50 good, and 10 excellent. Oats harvested was 16 percent, behind 23 last year, but near 12 average.


 
Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 2 percent very poor, 5 poor,  19 fair, 61 good, and 13 excellent.

 

 

 

Kansas Crop Progress and Condition

For the week ending July 8, 2018, there were 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 10 percent very short, 25 short, 63 adequate, and 2 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 11 percent very short, 30 short, 57 adequate, and 2 surplus.


 
Field Crops Report: Winter wheat condition rated 16 percent very poor, 30 poor, 37 fair,  15 good, and 2 excellent. Winter wheat harvested was 92 percent, near 90 last year, and ahead of 85 for the five-year average.


 
Corn condition rated 4 percent very poor, 12 poor, 32 fair, 45 good, and 7 excellent. Corn silking was 48 percent, ahead of 34 both last year and average. Dough was 6 percent, near 3 both last year and average.  


 
Soybean condition rated 2 percent very poor, 9 poor, 38 fair, 47 good, and 4 excellent. Soybeans blooming was 38 percent, ahead of 25 last year, and well ahead of 15 average. Setting pods was 5 percent, near 3 last year and 1 average.

 
 
Sorghum condition rated 2 percent very poor, 5 poor, 33 fair, 54 good, and 6 excellent. Sorghum headed was 6 percent, near 4 last year and 3 average.  


 
Cotton condition rated 1 percent very poor, 3 poor, 34 fair, 59 good, and 3 excellent. Cotton squaring was 55 percent, well ahead of 17 last year and 21 average.

 
 
Sunflowers planted was 92 percent, near 96 last year and 94 average.  


 
Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 7 percent very poor, 21 poor,  39 fair, 30 good, and 3 excellent.
